Summary

A woman stops at nothing to find her husband’s murderer in this psychological thriller about twisted marriages, fractured families, and deadly obsessions in this standalone sequel to the “brilliantly chilling” (Ruth Ware, New York Times bestselling author) The Family Upstairs from the New York Times bestselling author Lisa Jewell。

Early one morning on the shore of the Thames, DCI Samuel Owusu is called to the scene of a gruesome discovery。 When Owusu sends the evidence for examination, he learns the bones are connected to a cold case that left three people dead on the kitchen floor in a Chelsea mansion thirty years ago。

Rachel Rimmer has also received a shock—news that her husband, Michael, has been found dead in the cellar of his house in France。 All signs point to an intruder, and the French police need her to come urgently to answer questions about Michael and his past that she very much doesn’t want to answer。

After fleeing London thirty years ago in the wake of a horrific tragedy, Lucy Lamb is finally coming home。 While she settles in with her children and is just about to purchase their first-ever house, her brother takes off to find the boy from their shared past whose memory haunts their present。

As they all race to discover answers to these convoluted mysteries, they will come to find that they’re connected in ways they could have never imagined。

In this masterful standalone sequel to her haunting New York Times bestseller, The Family Upstairs, Lisa Jewell proves she is writing at the height of her powers with another jaw-dropping, intricate, and affecting novel about the lengths we will go to protect the ones we love and uncover the truth。

This is the sequel to The Family Upstairs。 A bag of human bones linked back to the Chelsea mansion has been found, where a chilling crime was committed many years previous。 I think I needed to have re read the first book before I started this one to keep up with the many characters, but it didn't stop me from enjoying it! Let me start by saying that I have not read The Family Upstairs yet。 I do have it but I didn't know this was the sequel! This book can still be enjoyed if you have not read The Family Upstairs。 There is enough detail about the characters so you don't get lost or confused about what is going on。 I will go back and read the first book。 I loved how each chapter was from the perspective of a different character。 This book definitely kept my attention。 Thank you to Lisa Jewell, NetGalley and Random Let me start by saying that I have not read The Family Upstairs yet。 I do have it but I didn't know this was the sequel! Lisa Jewell has said that she had to be persuaded to write a sequel to The Family Upstairs and I so glad she gave in! I was surprised this one was the best Lisa Jewell I've read, even its first book, The Family Upstairs! The Family Remains is less disturbing and aside fucking men。 the story follows the previous book characters, but not exactly in that time。 Lucy, Henry and Libby can't get away from their past and are stuck with it。 Two new narrators, Rachel, Michael’s wife (He's Lucy's ex) and DI Samuel Owusu who investigate an old murder!A suspense thriller family drama, dark, twisty and tense read!。May thanks I was surprised this one was the best Lisa Jewell I've read, even its first book, The Family Upstairs! The Family Remains is less disturbing and aside fucking men。 the story follows the previous book characters, but not exactly in that time。 Lucy, Henry and Libby can't get away from their past and are stuck with it。 Two new narrators, Rachel, Michael’s wife (He's Lucy's ex) and DI Samuel Owusu who investigate an old murder!A suspense thriller family drama, dark, twisty and tense read!。May thanks to Random House UK, Cornerstone via NetGalley for my ARC for which I have given an honest review。Publication date 21 July 2022。 。。。more

Wow! The Family Remains is just as good, if not better, then The Family Upstairs。 I love how Jewell took three different stories from her first book and connected them in this book to make one kick-ass novel。 Once I started reading, I did not want to put it down。

I absolutely loved this sequel! I loved the characters in the first book and this one did not disappoint! I was pulling for my favorite characters and was surprised by many of the events in this book! I love a good surprise! I highly recommend even if you have not read the first book。 She does a good job of filling you in without it dragging down the present plot!!

I think I really should have read The Family Upstairs before embarking on this。 However, there were enough pointers to fill me on what had happened previously。 Set against a backdrop of the discovery of human remains in the Thames, The Family Remains is the sequel to The Family Upstairs - a 'what happened next' to the characters。 Switching between them and on different timelines, it's a cleverly written novel which finishes with one character just as something dramatic happens。 The story kept my I think I really should have read The Family Upstairs before embarking on this。 However, there were enough pointers to fill me on what had happened previously。 Set against a backdrop of the discovery of human remains in the Thames, The Family Remains is the sequel to The Family Upstairs - a 'what happened next' to the characters。 Switching between them and on different timelines, it's a cleverly written novel which finishes with one character just as something dramatic happens。 The story kept my interest, it was quirky and different, but nonetheless very enjoyable。 My curiosity is such that I'm tempted to go back and read The Family Upstairs in order to uncover the whole story。My thanks to Lisa Jewell, Penguin Random House and NetGalley for an ARC of The Family Upstairs in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

I liked the original family upstairs and was so pleased and intrigued to find out their was a sequel。 It might be because I usually like Lisa Jewell’s books and I had quite high expectations but I did struggle a bit with this book。 I liked how the story rounded off and the plot was interesting but not a great deal happened for the first 75% of the book。 I found myself putting off finishing it and then raced through the last bit。 I thought that there were a few stretches of the imagination making I liked the original family upstairs and was so pleased and intrigued to find out their was a sequel。 It might be because I usually like Lisa Jewell’s books and I had quite high expectations but I did struggle a bit with this book。 I liked how the story rounded off and the plot was interesting but not a great deal happened for the first 75% of the book。 I found myself putting off finishing it and then raced through the last bit。 I thought that there were a few stretches of the imagination making me struggle a bit more than I had with the first and that I felt undermined the plot。 I’m really glad I got to read it though and thank you to netgalley because I would have bought it otherwise。 。。。more

I mean, this was just GOOD。 A twisted family drama/thriller involving murder, abuse and hidden identity。 This book has the perfect eerie tone and slowly enfolds all of the interconnected stories/subplots as the book goes on and it is delectable to the very last page! This book opens with the discovery of a dead body and the re-opening of a twenty year old cold case。 The story then closely follows the lives of Rachel, Henry and Lucy。 Rachel has just married a seemingly perfect man named Michael。 I mean, this was just GOOD。 A twisted family drama/thriller involving murder, abuse and hidden identity。 This book has the perfect eerie tone and slowly enfolds all of the interconnected stories/subplots as the book goes on and it is delectable to the very last page!
